Big band comes to small town

This Sunday, Chi Alpha, Revive, and The Pit along with several other businesses and clubs are hosting a concert by the Christian band Seventh Day Slumber. The concert begins at 7 p.m. on Sunday in Memorial Hall. The Eagle interviewed event promoter Mike Miller for the following Q&A.

Q: What is the hope for the outcome of the event?

A: Our goal is to try to bring in a big name band into a small community like Chadron and Chadron State College, and to do it for free so that the students can attend. Our biggest hope was to make it free.

Q: Why Seventh Day Slumber?

A: I had initially seen them at Hills Alive in July. I was looking at their website one night and noticed the contact for booking them. The dates worked and the cost worked, plus they’re a well-known band. So it’s pretty cool that we can have somebody that big come into a small town like this.

Q: Do you know if they are going to be performing any new material?

A: I don’t know, but I know there’s going to be music off of the last two albums. A lot of their music is directed right towards college students and young adults.

Q: Why should someone go to the concert instead of study, or watch TV, or just hang out?

A: It’s going to be high energy, hard rock. They normally have fire, but they can’t really do that in M-Hall. They are going to have a snow machine, lots of lights, great music…something that’s not going to come to town every week, or maybe even year.

Q: Do you happen to know how they came up with the “Small Town America” tour?

A: I don’t. From the interview with the local radio station, they want to get to some small towns. Joseph (Rojas, lead singer), grew up in a small town. They never really had any big bands come into town and if they did it was usually an acoustic set or a shorter set and never got the full concert. [They are] trying to bring a full concert to a small community.
