Struggle leads Eagles to victory
Chadron State volleyball team’s fight improved from Friday when they fell in three to Metro State, but wasn’t enough to help them seal a victory over the Regis Rangers on Saturday.
On Friday, Metro swept the Eagles with scores of 25-15, 25-21, and 25-10. For Metro, Kylie Haun had a match-high 10 kills and two aces for the Roadrunners. Top hitter for the Eagles was Mollie Jones, senior outside hitter of Longmont, Colo., who had six kills. Roadrunners hitting percentage of .300 trippled Chdron’s .109.
Against Regis State, Eagles volleyball battled through four matches, but it wasn’t enough to counter the Ranger’s attack. Katie Klein was top hitter for Regis, spiking 22 kills. Set scores were 27-25, 27-25, 24-26, 25-18.

Mallory Irvine, junior middle hitter of Ravine, spiked 19 kills and Jessica Jester, junior middle hitter of Cheyenne, Wyo., added nine more to the Eagles total.
Kristina Harter, senior libero of Colorado Springs, Colo., had 19 digs, and Jones added 18 more.
“We still have a lot of work to do. Our main focus now is our offense putting the ball away in serve receive and off defensive plays,” Baily said.
On Tuesday, the volleyball team headed to Black Hills State and won its first RMAC game since September 2010.
The Eagles started out strong the first two sets, accumulating hitting percentages of .414 and .458. Two contributors to this were Irvine and Jester. Both had 13 kills while Roybal had 11.
The Eagles defense excelled against the Yellow Jackets, with Harter having 17 digs, and Jones and Roybal combining for 22. Justine Ackey, freshman of Phoeniz, Ariz. led in assists with 27 and Alyssa Bauer, sophomore of Rapid City, S.D. contributed another 20.
Chadron State travels to University of Colorado- Colorado Springs on Saturday to play the Mountain Lions. Game starts at 7 p.m.
