The same two female runners led the team to victory. Senior of Chadron Ashley Riesen and Jayme Nunes, freshman of Alliance, came in first and second respectively. Four other Chadron women runners finished in the top ten.

On the men’s side, head coach Ryan Baily saw improvement.

“The most positive thing was the gap time from the first to fifth runner was only 70 seconds,” Baily said.

Freshman of Gering, Domingo Torres, finished first for the Eagles and seventh overall, running a 28:03.01. Alex Johnson, senior of Kearney, came in right behind Torres with a time of 28:08.08.

The Eagle runners won’t compete for two weeks until the Chili Pepper festival, held in Fayetteville, Ark. There are 35 teams registered for each gender, escalating the competition dramatically.

“The next two weeks are very difficult as we have increased the volume and the intensity of the workouts. The most important thing now is to ensure we keep them healthy for the next few weeks,” Baily said.
