Student Senate

Senate rounds out dorm representation

Student Senate swore in Jacob Rissler as the new Andrews Hall representative this week, fulfilling its objective to have a student from each residence hall serving on Senate.

Rissler resigned from his position as senator at large in order to apply for the Andrews Hall representative position. Rissler said he was disappointed when no student volunteered to serve as Andrews Hall’s representative, and since he was on the committee that created residence hall representatives, he saw it as an important position to fill. Rissler was voted in unanimously.

In other news, Vice President T.J. Thomson said that he had done some research on how to advertise Student Senate and increase the visibility of its desk hours. Thomson said that they could have a six-foot-wide by three-foot-high banner made which would cost $150, or could have 25 T-shirts made with front and back inking that would cost $287. The discussion was tabled until the next meeting.

Ashley Swanson, treasurer, said that Student Senate Finance Committee applications were due last Friday. Swanson received eight applications, and said that interviews would be on Thursday. The most appropriate applicants will then be brought to senate for approval.

Swanson also said that there is $83,738 in un-allocated funds.

President James Bahensky said the pep rally on Thursday went well and that more than 300 people were served.

CAB President Dani Buckley said that CAB had talked about Zombieland “rules” as a theme for the homecoming parade floats. She also said that they are currently looking for club involvement for the club fair.

Thomson asked Buckley that CAB look at getting outdated club contact information on CSC’s website updated.

Thomson said that Interim Executive of Student Affairs Aaron Prestwich is currently putting together a packet about Board Policy 3300, which requires clubs to move fundraised funds to an off-campus account. The packet will be brought before Student Senate and CAB next week.

Thomson also said that last week there was a request to see if ice machines could be put in other buildings besides the Student Center and Kent Hall. Thomson said that Mansfield Enterprises supplies the ice machines on campus, and that he and Bahensky had submitted a formal petition to college administrators requesting that an ice machine be installed in Edna.

Bahensky said that Nathan Pindell has resigned from his position on constitutional court and that the Senate would need someone to fill that position as well as the position of corresponding secretary. Those interested should contact Bahensky.
