The Chadron State College Rodeo team nabbed its first top honor of the season this weekend at the Sheridan College Rodeo in Sheridan, Wyo.

Shelby Winchell, junior of Scottsbluff, took All-Around Cowgirl at the Sheridan Rodeo, tallying 155 points. Winchell also won the goat tying, posting 7.3 seconds in the first go-round and 7.7 seconds in the finals for 15.1 seconds in the average.  Amy Tierney, junior of Oral, S.D., also made the final go-round in goat tying and took sixth in the average with 15.9 seconds.

In saddle bronc riding, junior Jace Blackwell of Rapid City, S.D., placed third in the average with 111 points.  Blackwell was one of only three cowboys in the 11-man field to mark-out his horse and make the full eight-seconds.  He is currently the top saddle bronc rider in the region with 180 points.

Junior Mitch McAdow of Littleton, Colo., moved up from last week’s placing in the tie down roping, finishing fourth in the finals.  McAdow tied his first calf in 13.7 seconds, and tied his second calf in 13.2 seconds, posting a time of 26.9 seconds in the average.

Sophomore Amy Deichert of Spearfish, S.D., placed sixth for the second week in-a-row in barrel racing, tallying 36.51 seconds in the average.

Winchell, Deichert, and freshman Abbie Frey of Crawfordsville, Ind., made it to the short-go in breakaway roping.  Winchell posted a time of 4.1 seconds, and both Deichert and Frey posted times of 4.5 seconds, but finished seventh, eighth, and tenth respectively after all three cowgirls took no-time in the final go-round.

The rodeo team travels to Lamar Wyo., to participate in the Lamar County Community College Rodeo Friday through Sunday.
