Social work class to host disabilities-focused campus conference

A desire to “give back” drove CSC student Samantha Kerner, senior of Baldwin, Iowa, to choose social work as her major, and is, along with class credit, the reason that students from SW435 are hosting the “Dis-Abilities No More–Together We Will Explore” conference from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday in the Student Center’s Ballroom.

Kerner and her colleagues are organizing the conference around education, opportunities, and employment for the disabled. Kerner said the conference consists of two keynote speeches and numerous breakout sessions Wednesday morning and afternoon.

Mike Floyd, with the National Federation of the Blind, will deliver the morning keynote address, while Gary May, an author, educator, and Vietnam veteran, will present the afternoon speech.

The event, which includes a complimentary lunch, is free and open to the public.
