Senate considers NPAC equipment; ice machines
Senate’s Monday meeting began with the discussion of new equipment additions in the Nelson Physical Activities Center’s weight room.
Chris Green, NPAC coordinator, and Cressey Yeutter, NPAC GA, said they liked the bid from Push-Pedal-Pull best. Green and Yeutter requested a vertical Smith machine, glute/ham with reverse hyper arms, vertical abs and dip and two Olympic flat benches be purchased to replace old ones in the facility.
The total for this purchase from Push-Pedal-Pull would be $6,692, Yeutter said. Green said equipment being replaced is normally sold, sometimes to area high schools; however, the idea of keeping the equipment on the college campus and moving them to the basement of High Rise.
Jacob Rissler, senator of Andrews, updated the Senate on getting an ice machine in Edna Work Hall. The issues associated with the machines are drainage in the appropriate places and keeping them in the public eye to prevent vandalism.
Two different solutions were proposed: an ice machine dispenser that requires proper drainage and access to a water line, or bagged ice stored in a locked container and supplied by a vendor. One of the main concerns was the bagged ice not fitting in student freezers and the ice would go to waste. The bagged ice option would allow students to purchase bagged ice for $1 per bag.
Another idea proposed was to install cameras where the ice dispensers would be located, however, Rissler said each camera costs $1,600.
In other business, T.J. Thomson, vice president, said a distance-learner from Hawaii was interested in participating in student government, and that he was working on a videoconference solution so that the student could participate.
In Tuesday’s CAB meeting, Treasurer Kellie Aye said clubs asking for more than $1,000 are given a 20 minute hearing March 22 and 23, while clubs asking less than $1,000 will be scheduled March 14-15 with 10 minute hearings.
CSC student Sam Parker requested $3,500 for “The Big Event” community service day. The CAB representatives approved Parker’s request.
