Snow stymies golfers’ practices

After waiting almost a month from their first meet, Chadron State’s golf team competed in the ThunderWolf Ladies Spring Invitational on Saturday in Pueblo, Colo., finishing in sixth place out of the ten teams that participated.

Karissa Moreland, a freshman of North Platte, who led for the Eagles in their last meet, was at the top once again. She had the highest score for the team with 81, and finished sixth overall with a score of 167. Another golfer who finished in the top 20 for Chadron was Emma Harris, freshman of Wahoo, who had a total score of 178.

The team winner for the meet was the host, Colorado State University-Pueblo. A redshirt freshman lady ThunderWolf Hee-Leina Kim took first place over all of the ladies competing and helped her team claim the victory with her total score of 152.

Coming in ahead of Chadron was Colorado Mesa in second place, Nebraska-Kearney in third, and Adams State only five points ahead of Chadron State. Head Coach Terri Connealy says that even with the few practices the girls have done a great job.

“Karissa Moreland Shot exceptionally well, and our freshman are rated nationally as well,” Connealy said.

However, with the blizzard that covered Chadron, the Black Hills State University scheduled for today Apr. 11 is canceled, along with the Chadron State Triangular. Their next meet will be the RMAC Championships in Phoenix, Ariz., and with the huge amounts of snow, practices are limited.

“We are not going to be able to get out on the greens at all before the championships,” Connealy said Wednesday.

With the snow predicted to linger for a while, the team will resume practice in their indoor facilities, limiting their ability to practice all the dimensions of golf.

“I think it’s a big concern for the girls because you have to continually work on your game,” Connealy said.
