Opinion

Have a complaint? Put it in writing.

A voice is a powerful thing to have. Through your voice, you can inspire beauty or bring sorrow. You can employ your voice to spin fantasy or highlight the crushing grind of reality. With any voice comes an opinion; our individual likes and dislikes, our beliefs and our theories.

But without a vehicle, your voice cannot affect anything.  If you want to inspire change and progress, or if you strive to conserve the values you cherish, being silent won’t help you in the slightest.

No matter how many Facebook friends you have, no matter how many Twitter followers you gain; the outcome is still going to be same. You might get a few likes for a well-crafted rant, or get a head nod from friends, but your reach will be limited.

I overhear chatter from students complaining about the campus newspaper, and the thing that gets me is that they are not willing to express their opinion in the one place that scathing critiques are actually encouraged: the Opinion page.

If you think that the opinions presented here are too “liberal,” maybe you should try writing a guest column. If you think you can do better than any of our current columnists, then we will lay the gauntlet down for you to prove it.

You have to have the courage to own your opinions publicly, and if you think you’re up to the task, I’ll gladly give you the space to have your letter or column published.  Keep in mind that we reserve the right to edit your submissions.

This is an open invitation. Write a letter if you disagree with anything presented in the Opinion section.

Or don’t. You can complain and suffer in silence if you want, but don’t say we didn’t give you a chance for your voice to be heard.
