Your mom doesn’t live here

Residents were a little shocked over the weekend when the trash chutes in High Rise became clogged. During the break, an unfortunate soul threw a pizza box down the chute, where it got stuck.

As a result, trash wasn’t able to get through and it piled up all the way to the third floor.

According to maintenance staff, this isn’t an unusual occurrence. “This happens around maybe half a dozen times per semester. Usually the custodians take the trash on weekends, but since they weren’t able to, the load has increased from 14 bags to about 20.”

Under normal circumstances, one would assume that the residents would just take their trash outside, right? Wrong. This hasn’t been the case, as trash continued to stack up just outside the chutes.

Perhaps this was because most students went home for Labor Day, or they just didn’t feel like taking the long and grueling trek to the dumpster outside.

Come on guys, is that really necessary?

This is college, a.k.a. the time of your life where you are supposed to be growing up; your mommy and daddy aren’t going to be around to pick up after you, take care of all your messes and change your diaper. Does it really take that much effort to go to the elevator, go to the first floor, walk to the dumpster, drop your trash off there, and go back to your room? When you type it all out, it seems like it might be a bit of a chore, but that is exactly what you had to do as a kid, so you should be pretty good at it by this point.

I don’t think that the guy who threw the pizza box down the chute expected this to happen, so it isn’t entirely his fault, but still, you shouldn’t just dump your trash in the middle of the hallway, especially when it smells like booze. How would you like to be the guy that has to take care of it all?

Have you ever heard older folks saying “This generation is so lazy?” Well it’s the little things like this that prove their point. I will admit there are some days where I’m struck with a general sense of ennui and don’t even try to move out of that comfy spot on my bed, but those days are called “the weekend.”

Laziness can be nice once in a while when you are overworked and you feel like your world is crashing around you or some melodramatic stuff like that, but you shouldn’t let it get in the way of your day-to-day rituals. Like some of those people that don’t show up for class weeks at a time. Yes, this was me at a few points, and I’m sure that a few of you have gone through the same thing, but trust me, it will come back to haunt you when you get your report card.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a day off once in a while. Everyone needs a break every now and then. But don’t be that guy or girl who just thinks, “Meh I’ll just leave it here, someone will come take care of it.”

That’s a bad mentality to have. Like I said earlier, would you like to be the guy that has to go to every floor in the building and take all the trash out of the hallways?

Seriously though, if the trash is all in the hall, why would you put your booze there? That is a horrible idea.
