Senate’s account balance clarified, CAB allocates for free movie night, tailgate party

Miscommunication between Vice President of Finance, Ashley Swanson, and Dale Grant, vice president of administration and finance, led to an incorrect statement of funds for senate’s account.

Last week, the total of unallocated funds released was $42,952, but has since been fixed.

The treasurer’s report has been resolved to report the correct amount.

There is $176,964.81 in unallocated funds available. As of Sept. 23, there is $808.52 in the Foundation Account, $1,930 in the State Account, and $124,226.29 in the Student Activity Fee Reserve Account.

Also changed this week, Secretary Marlee Waugh turned in her resignation letter. Chief Justice Jon Lordino read the letter, stating, “This was not an easy decision.” Waugh expressed in the letter the need to focus more on her academics and career opportunities, and how these must be her first priorities. President Jacob Rissler commented on Waugh’s lengthy involvement, saying, “She has been on senate longer than I have.” He also emphasized the need for senators to support their fellow senator’s decision.

To fill the position Waugh vacated, representatives will vote in a new secretary. Individuals interested must apply by next week’s meeting.

Senate Finance Committee drafting committee is revising its by-laws, a series of self-regularity mandates which are internally approved and held as established authority for SFC to operate under. Last week, select senators held the first meeting for the new by-law drafting committee. Once the by-law draft is complete, committee members will bring it before senate for majority approval.

Lane Swedberg, CAB president, announced two allocations which CAB failed to allocate during the previous meeting. Funds for the tailgate party and free movie weren’t allocated before the events, so CAB voted, and approved, their release during this week’s meeting. Swedberg said the forgotten funds were actually a fortunate occurrence, since the free-movie night fund-request had an accurate number instead of maximum estimation. CAB allocated $1,440 for the free movie night, which was held Sunday, and $117 football game’s tailgate, held Saturday.

Brendan Mead, vice chair of finance, announced that if clubs require further funds for next quarter, they must submit an itemized budget by Sept. 27th.

In the meeting next Tuesday, CAB will vote on allocating $100 to the Natural Science Club for t-shirts. These will supply a t-shirt sale to “revamp the club,” and they asked for $100 for supplies. Late Natural Science Club member Zack Muma designed the shirts. The club will also be holding an art show in the Math and Science Building from Oct. 3 to Oct. 5 and submissions need to be made by Oct. 1.

CAB Chair Lane Swedberg reminded representatives that bed sheets need to be turned in by Oct. 27. If a club needs an extension, they need to contact him as soon as possible. Director of Student Activities Laure Sinn added that in order to get money from CAB for homecoming supplies, club members need to go to Wal-Mart with her. She can be reached at 308-432-6455 and will be going at 3:00 p.m. on the 26, but is willing to take additional trips.
