New course to mark in CSC’s history
With advising week around the corner, the history department is offering a new concept course for the spring semester, HIST 465: Process in the North American West.

Students who enroll in the course can expect to focus on the process of historic memory while collecting, cataloging, and archiving artifacts and stories from the surrounding area. The data collected will be used for The History Harvest project, directed by William G. Thomas and Patrick D. Jones at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
“The class is not just about recording, but interpreting stories to understand the past,” David Nesheim, assistant professor of history, said Monday.
Nesheim said he will be teaching the course and the class will be linked with History Harvests being conducted at University of Nebraska at Kearney, and UNL. The groups will have weekly meetings via Skype to discuss their findings and address topics.
“These stories have value to the families that share them,” Nesheim said, “and chances are they will have value to historians as well.”
Students looking for more information about the History Harvest project can visit htt://historharvest.unl.edu, and speak to their advisor to find out how to enroll in the course.
