Two home games left for Eagles
This week the volleyball team will play the last two home games of the season against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers, Golden, and the Colorado Christian University Cougars, Lakewood. The Eagles played both of these teams this season, and lost to both. The Eagles will play against the Orediggers 6 p.m. tomorrow and will play the Cougars 5 p.m. Saturday.
On Tuesday night, the Eagles faced South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Rapid City, for the third time this season. The game win was handed to the Hardrockers in a four-set loss. Each of the three times that the Eagles and the Hardrockers matched up, the Eagles lost in four sets.
There were five Eagles with at least six kills in Tuesday night’s game. Nikki Schmidt, junior of Merino, Colo., led the way with 10 kills; Erika Roybal, junior of Denver, tallied nine kills and a team-high 17 digs; and Jessica Jester, senior of Cheyenne, Wyo., finished with eight kills and four blocks. Barbie DeCent, senior of Paxton, and Alia Brennan, freshman of Chadron, each finished with six kills. Justine Ackie, sophomore of Phoenix, posted a match-high 36 set assists.
Last Thursday, the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves swept the Eagles. Jester logged six kills and a team-high four blocks, while Roybal led the Eagles with eight kills. Alyssa Bauer, junior of Rapid City, S.D., led Chadron State with 11 digs, and Ackie recorded 17 set assists.
On Friday, the Eagles broke a 15-game losing streak with a win against the Western State Colorado University Mountaineers. This was a conference game and improved the Eagle’s standing to 1-13 in the RMAC. Both Bauer and Ackie served three aces for the Eagles and Brittany Oddo, junior of Peoria, Ariz., led the Eagles with 16 digs.
The Eagles played Adams State University on Saturday, but Chadron State failed to keep their momentum from the previous night and fell in four sets. DeCent led CSC with eight kills, Roybal and Schmidt each scored six kills and Jester finished with five kills, served three aces and assisted on five blocks.
