Eagles move up individually, remain stuck as team

Saturday, the Eagles’ football team improved their record to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the RMAC with a 59-17 win over Western New Mexico University, Silver City.
CSC’s quarterback, Jonn McLain, junior of Chadron, completed 21 of 29 passes for 135 yards and three TD’s, bringing his career touchdown total to 70. That record puts McLain second on the Eagles’ all-time list with his brother, Joe McLain, and Shawn Eisenreich. Steward Perez holds the record for the most touchdown passes, 73.
Wide receiver, Nathan Ross, senior of San Diego, also broke the record he shared with Jay Rhoades and Cory Brooks for his 23rd career touchdown reception. Ross received four passes for 28 yards and the one touchdown against WNMU.
Glen Clinton moved up to second on Chadron State’s all-time list in rushing yards, behind Danny Woodhead. Clinton’s career rushing yards now reaches 4,501 yards after posting 242 yards against WNMU. His season total is 1,363 yards. He was named Nebraska Division II Offensive Player of the Week.
The team remains seventh on the NCAA Division II Super Region Four rankings. The top six teams move on to the playoffs at the end of regular season.
Shea Koch, senior of Custer, S.D., talked about what they, as a team, need to do in order to move up that one spot into playoff position.
“It’s pretty simple for us,” he said. “We have to take care of what we can and win out the rest of the season.”
The Eagles also remain second on the RMAC rankings.
CSC will play their final home football game of the season at noon on Saturday against the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colo. The Skyhawks are 4-5 overall and are ranked sixth on the RMAC standings.
