15 football players named for post season honors

Twelve players from Chadron State’s football team were named for the 2013 RMAC All-Conference football teams.

Three were named for the first team: tailback, Glen Clinton; wide receiver, Nathan Ross; and center Sam Parker.

Clinton, senior of Cody, Wyo., led the team this year in rushing yards with 1,518 yards. He posted 13 rushing TD’s and one receiving TD. He caught 43 passes for 405 yards. Clinton is a four-time all-conference choice and has been named one of the nine finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy this year. He is the second leading rusher for Chadron State with a career total of 4,656 yards. He is ranked 10th nationally in rushing yards and in rushing yards per game. He is ranked 14th in the nation in all-purpose yardage.

Ross, senior of San Diego, rushed for 598 on 43 carries for six touchdowns. He also caught 27 passes for 539 yards. He became CSC’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions with 23.

Parker, junior of Harrison, helped on the offensive line.

The four players who were selected for the second team include Jonn McLain, Cody Roes, Jake McCrary, and Shea Koch.

Quarterback, McLain, junior of Chadron, completed 258 of 394 passes this season for 2,615 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also rushed 38 times for 41 yards and one 30-yard touchdown.

Inside receiver, Roes, senior of Chadron, caught a team-high 54 passes for 576 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Left tackle, McCrary, senior of Valentine, started in all 11 games this season.

Inside linebacker, Koch, senior of Custer, S.D., posted 127 tackles this season: 52 solo and 75 assisted. He also helped on two quarterback sacks and six tackles for loss.

The third team will include Chapman Ham, Mike Lorenzo, Dylan Furrier, Lane Haller and Trelan Taylor.

Inside receiver, Ham, senior of Rapid City, S.D., caught 51 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns.

Left guard, Lorenzo, junior of Oak Park, Calif., started for 23 straight games.

Linebacker, Furrier, sophomore of Tucson, tallied 75 tackles this year including 3.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss. He marked 31 solo tackles and 44 assisted tackles.

Cornerback, Haller, junior of Gordon, marked 74 tackles which included 40 solo, 34 assisted, and 1.5 tackles for loss. He also intercepted two passes for 79 yards.

Safety, Taylor, senior of Spring Valley, Calif., only played in five games this season because of a six-game suspension at the beginning of the season because of a credit shortage committed in 2011, but posted 41 tackles: 28 solo, 13 assisted, and one for a loss. He also intercepted two passes for 39 yards.

Ryan Wood was named as the RMAC Freshman Co-Defensive Player of the Year and shares the honor with a Colorado Mesa University’s defensive end William Milo, freshman of San Deigo.

Defensive back, Wood, freshman of Stockton, Calif., counted 53 tackles: 36 solo, 17 assisted, and four for loss. He also intercepted three passes.

Four Eagles were also named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II Team. This is the first time in school history that four CSC players have been selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The two player selected for the first team include Clinton, who was also named to the Academic All-American team in 2012, and safety, Pierre Etchemendy, senior of Douglas, Wyo., who posted 61 tackles this season including four for loss, and one interception.

The second team selection include Parker and defensive end, Zach Sandstrom, junior of Chadron, who tallied 42 tackles for three for loss and one sack.
