Letter: Rissler on Swanson’s Resignation

Dear Editor:

Andrew Jackson once said: ‘Any man worth his salt will stick up for what he believes right, but it takes a slightly better man to acknowledge instantly and without reservation that he is in error.”

Before the executive board meeting last Monday, I made an error in procedure. While I still feel that there is a potential for a conflict of interest in this situation; after talking with all the senate executive board, faculty advisers, and my personal advisers, it has come to my attention that I lack the constitutional foundation to call for Ms. Swanson’s resignation. Therefore; in order to rectify the procedure, I hereby recommend that Senate refuse to accept Ms. Swanson’s resignation from Monday January 20th’s meeting.

I apologize for any perceived malice or ill intent. It was never, nor has it been, my intention to come across as rash or offensive. Those familiar with my character can attest to that. My intent was, and is, to be proactive in preventing situations, causes, or issues that would lead to circumstances identical to last year. That being said we are lucky, as students, to attend a school that encourages a learning atmosphere. Thank You.

—Jacob Rissler,
Student Senate President
