Records set at twilight

Chadron State hosted its annual Twilight meet this Friday. The meet was held at the Nelson Physical Activity Center. It was a record setting night as the track and field teams competed against South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, and Black Hills State University, Spearfish.

Stachia Reuwsaat, freshman from Black Hawk, S.D., set a meet record in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet, 6 inches. That jump is also an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division II National Championships held March 14-15 in Winston Salem, N.C. Reuwsaat also won the 60-meter dash in 8.06 seconds and placed second in the 200.

Kelsy Wood, freshman of Hemmingford, set a meet record in the 60-meter high hurdles with a time of 9.06 seconds.

The women’s 4×400 relay team also set an Eagle record, 4:05.49. The 4×400 team members were Wood, Shelby Guy, junior of Akron, Colo., Rylee Newman, freshman of Colorado Springs, and Meagan Nahrwold, junior of Byers, Colo.

Nahrwold also won the 400-meter dash.

Karl McFarlane, senior of Montego Bay, Jamaica, won the 60-meter high hurdle in 8.06 seconds, which is a meet record. He broke his previous record of 8.20 seconds that he set last year.

Charith Kapukotuwa, senior of Chilaw, Sri Lanka, was also a double winner. He won the shot put with a throw of 57-2 and the 35 pound weight throw at 58-5 3/4.  The shot put mark is a career best for Kapukotuwa.

Alyssa Norton, senior of Rushville, broke the CSC’s shot put record for the women for the second time in two weeks. She threw a 49-2 1/2. She broke the 48-6 1/4 record she set at Black Hills State Dave Little Invitational in Spearfish on Jan. 25.

The CSC track and field team will participate in the Birds and the Bees Invitational in Gillette, Wyo., beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday and lasting through Saturday. Saturday’s events will begin at 9 a.m.
