Women drop record to 3-16 after 2 games in Denver

CSC Eagles lost 90-59 against Regis University, Saturday afternoon in Denver.  Long-range shots sealed the deal for the Rangers in the first half. Regis made eight of 16 3-point shots in the first half.

The Eagles shot 24 of 51 shots, but they were only 29 percent from inside the 3-point line, and 50 percent from the free-throw line.

Kattie Ranta, senior of Rapid City, S.D., led the Eagles with 17 points and five rebounds. Kayli Rageth, senior forward of Kimball, scored 14 points and pulled in six rebounds. They were the only Eagles who reached double figures.

The Rangers led 49-25 at halftime thanks to long-range shots.  Regis’ Tae’lor Purdy, senior of Agate, Colo., led her team in scoring with 20 points and seven rebounds.  Four other Rangers scored at least nine or more points. Bay’lee Purdy, sophomore of Agate, Colo.; Sarah Seefeldt, junior of The Woodlands, Texas; Erica Von Stein, junior of Trafalgar, Ind., and Karlyn Johnson, freshman of Littleton, Colo., scored 16, 14, 12, and nine points respectively.

The Eagles also lost Friday to Metropolitan State University, Denver, 83-62.

Metro State’s Deni Jacobs, junior of Plains, Kan., scored 22 points to lead the Roadrunners.

The Eagles made 21 of 55 shots, 38 percent, and 15 of 23 free throws.

Dallas Shaw, junior of Buffalo, Wyo., led the Eagles with 19 points, five rebounds and three assists. Ranta chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds. They were the only Eagles who scored in double figures. Greer Babbe, senior of Papillion, recorded five blocks in the contest.

In addition to Jacobs for Metro, Amy Nelson, senior of Richmond, Utah, scored 18 points. Seven other Roadrunners also put points on the board. The team hit 45 percent from the field, and they made 18 of 18 free throws. Moreover, 28 of their points came off turnovers.

The Eagles are 3-16 overall and 3-12 in the RMAC. CSC hosts Western State at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Colorado Mesa at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, both in Armstrong Gym.
