Men’s record dribbles down to 7-14 in RMAC

The CSC men lost to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Saturday, 90-84.

CSC never gained a lead in the game. The team’s first points were scored off free throws by forward Zac Bargen, senior of Chadron. UCCS steadily increased their lead after a series of missed shots by CSC.

After the 12:49 mark, CSC trailed by more than eight points for the remainder of the half. Forward Kendrick Holliman, junior of Spanish Fort, Ala., scored the last points of the half on a jumper, leaving CSC trailing 48-36.

CSC made only 38 percent of its field goals in the first half, including three of seven by Holliman. The team made 43 percent of its 3-pointers, and 69 percent of its free throws.

CSC scored the first points of the second half on a layup in the paint by point guard Josiah Lee, junior of Colorado Springs.

At the 13:55 mark of the half, CSC was within two points of UCCS. A 3-pointer by guard David Downey, senior of Scottsbluff, led the surge of points.

However, UCCS remained ahead of CSC by at least six points for the remainder of the game after the 10:55 mark. The game ended on a layup by Holliman. UCCS winning 90-84.

In the second half, CSC made 39 percent of its field goals, 20 percent of its 3-pointers, and 64 percent of its free throws. CSC outscored UCCS in the half, 48-36.

Four CSC players scored over 10 points during the game. Holliman scored 19 points, while Lee and Bargen scored 11 each. Guard Grant Stone, senior of Canton, Mich., also scored 10 points during the game.

CSC forced 22 turnovers throughout the game, but only scored 17 points as a result. UCCS, however, forced 10 fewer turnovers and scored 18 points as a result. Overall, CSC made 38 percent of its field goals, 29 percent of its 3-pointers, and 66 percent of its free throws.

On Sunday, the CSC men lost to Colorado State University-Pueblo, 84-70.

Holliman scored CSC’s first points of the game on a jumper. CSC and CSU-Pueblo fought for the lead during the first nine minutes of the half. CSC led by as much as eight points, including points made by Bargen, Downey, and Stone, until CSU-Pueblo took the lead with six minutes remaining to play. CSC did not get another lead.

CSU-Pueblo surged to end the half ahead by 12 points, by a score of 43-31.

CSC made 29 percent of its field goals, 28 percent of its 3-pointers, and 50 percent of its free throws in the half.

CSU-Pueblo held a strong lead throughout most of the second half. CSC came within two points with 13 minutes left to play on a 3-pointer by guard Christopher Smith, junior of Pasadena, Calif.

CSU-Pueblo scored the last points of the game on free throws, ending it CSU-Pueblo, 84, CSC, 70.

Overall, CSC made 36 percent of its field goals and 3-pointers, and 65 percent of its free throws. Stone led CSC’s scoring with 13 total points, including two 3-pointers.

CSC fell to a 7-14 record in the RMAC and a 10-15 overall record this weekend with only one game left to play.

CSC will play their final game of the season against rival Black Hills State University, Spearfish, S.D. at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Armstrong.
