Softball win 2 of 3 games in Denver; 1 game cancelled
CSC’s softball team went 2-1 during the RMAC games against Metro State in Denver.
The games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Denver, but weather conditions forced them to be rescheduled for Friday and Saturday. The Saturday game was then cancelled due to a snowstorm. The game will not be rescheduled.
Seven Eagles hit home runs.
In the fourth inning of Friday’s opener Sarah Knudsen, senior from Parker, Colo., homered to center field followed by Katie Londo, senior of Colorado Springs. The game was tied 4-4 as the Eagles went into extra innings winning the game 9-5.
In the first circle, Aryn Grywusiewicz, senior of Denver, pitched the entire game, allowing 11 hits, striking out five.
Courtney Lecher, freshman of Fort Collins, Colo., hit a homer in the second inning of the second game to give the team a lead of 2-0.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Taylor Cobb, sophomore of Colorado Springs, hit the Eagles’ second grand slam of the day bringing home Shea Graham, sophomore of Colorado Springs; Zoe Humphries, freshman of Arvada, Colo.; and Caroline Johnson, sophomore of Firestone, Colo.; to settle the score 9-3. The Eagles won the game 9-4.
Pitcher Kylee Polsley, senior of Omaha, struck out three in the second game.
In the third game, Metro State had an early lead of 3-0 in the first inning until Knudsen hit a homer bringing the score to 3-2. Graham recorded an RBI when she singled to right field and brought Johnson home. The game ended with the Roadrunner’s victory of 11-3 by the 8 run rule.
CSC is scheduled to host the University of Sioux Falls in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday, March 5.
