Softball shutout Regis on second day of two-day matchup
Monday afternoon, Chadron State met with Regis University for the second of two straight double-headers. CSC pitcher Kylee Polsley, senior of Omaha, led the Eagles in the two games by pitching two complete shutout game, allowing just two hits in the first game for a 4-0 victory and four hits in the second game for a 5-0 victory.
The wins helped the Eagles improve their record to 8-12 overall and 5-3 in the RMAC, while Regis fell to 7-14 overall and 6-5 in the RMAC. The Eagles were scheduled to play a double-header at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Tuesday afternoon, but the games were postponed due a conflict in scheduling.
Polsley has five of the Eagles’ eight wins this season, and she went 3-0 against the Rangers on Sunday and Monday. She allowed an impressive three runs in 21 innings of pitching.
“It’s easy to win a game when your pitcher is giving up no runs,” outfielder Jessica Eatmon, junior of Broomfield, Colo., said. “Our offense did the job, and we came together really well as a whole. Our pitcher had our backs, and we had hers.”
Polsley only allowed two singles in the first game, but struck out four batters. When CSC’s Rebecca Wetsch, junior of Erie, Colo., hit an RBI single in the top of the third, the Eagles didn’t need another run to win the game. Wetsch brought another run in during the fifth inning, in which the Eagles scored three runs to seal the deal. Also, Eatmon hit a single in the fifth inning that brought Rebekah Anthony, sophomore of Monument, Colo., and Shea Graham, sophomore of Colorado Springs, home to give the Eagles a 4-0 edge over the Rangers.
Outfielder Sarah Knudsen, senior of Parker, Colo., got things going early in the second game by hitting a solo home run in the first inning, and Courtney Lecher, freshman of Fort Collins, Colo., cranked an RBI double in the second, giving CSC a 2-0 lead early on. Catcher Casey Polk, junior of Golden, Colo., hit a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth to put the game away. Polsley pitched another shutout in the second game, giving up four spread-out hits and pitching four strikeouts.
For the day, CSC had nine hits and a run to account for each one. Lecher led the Eagles with three hits (two doubles), and Knudsen and Eatmon both chipped in two hits of their own. CSC is set to host Adams State in a 4-game RMAC series this Sunday, March 16, and Monday, March 17. The first game will begin at noon Saturday.
