Health survey ready for student input

CSC students recently received emails about the American College Health Association and National College Health Assessment survey to be taken between March 24 and April 7.

“The survey is about what student health is like on campus,” Mary Jo Carnot, assistant director of teaching and learning center said.

Carnot; Susan Schaeffer, associate professor of counseling, psychology and social work; and Kathleen Kirsch, associate professor of social and communication arts, are heading up a group of people that administrate the survey.

Students who are seeking a degree and live on campus or are within a 60 mile radius of the school received the survey email.

The survey takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. It has about 65 questions that cover a wide range of health related aspects: basic health, health education and safety, alcohol and drugs, sexual behaviors and contraception, weight, nutrition, exercise, physical health, and mental health.

Carnot explained the goals and objectives of the research group which is working on behalf of the college.

“The goal is to find out what is going on around campus,” Carnot said, “and what programs we need, to fix and improve health.”

When students complete the survey, their names will be put into a drawing to win these prizes: a Mini Jambox by Jawbone Wireless Bluetooth Speaker, $25 Wal-Mart gift card, or a CSC T-shirt.
