Senate extends election petitions to Friday
Lack of publicity prompted Senate’s executive board to extend the deadline for election petitions. The deadline is extended to all student body members but not Senate members. Petitions must be completed and submitted by Friday. Students should expect to see advertisement through Facebook, Eaglemail, and other school advertisement.
Vice-President Nate Jones addressed the lack of publicity from Senate. Jones hopes to create a Senate Marketing Campaign that would provide financial reports of allocated funds, events sponsored by Senate, and propaganda posters to encourage the student body to be involved. “We haven’t had the most positive reputation and we need to make changes towards a positive image,” Jones said.
A vote to approve the bylaw providing scholarships to Senate members has been postponed.
A lengthy discussion providing feedback on FYI classes stirred up many emotions during Monday’s Senate meeting. Most members felt that FYI classes were not beneficial to their education. Some suggestions to improve FYI classes included correlating the difficulty of the class to its course number and changing the class focus to preparing professional papers and using resources.
Senate approved $10,000 to fund this year’s Nearly Naked Mile. The funds will help provide food, T-shirts, backpacks, and prizes.
