Helmbrecht pulls double duty as PR director, SID

Alex Helmbrecht, former sports information director of Chadron State College, is now the director of college relations as of July 1.

Helmbrecht’s position as director of college relations entails that he acts as the head spokesperson for CSC. He is responsible for managing CSC’s public relations staff, and is also the managing editor for the news flow out of CSC.

As of right now, there will not be a replacement for the position of sports information director, Helmbrecht said. However, with the help of a part -time student, he will continue to handle the responsibilities of his previous position. There are plans to fill the position in the future.

When Helmbrecht was sports information director he was in charge of managing only students. Helmbrecht’s responsibilities will expand to include not only managing students but also all of CSC’s public relations staff.

“Sports information is deadline driven. There is a strong mentality of having to be timely and accurate,” he said. “I want to carry this mentality over into my position as director of college relations.”

Helmbrecht also said he wants to make the information relatable to the college staff and students to help them feel closer to what is happening around the college.

He plans to do what is best for CSC and aims to be as transparent as possible.

He also wants to be the liaison between the different sectors of CSC’s campus.

As far as the roles of this new position, Helmbrecht has no immediate changes planned for the department.
