Men, women runners stretch win streak
The men’s and women’s cross country teams took first place at the Chadron State meet Saturday.
The men’s six kilometer race kicked the day off.
Alejandro Garcia, junior of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, had a strong first-place finish with a time of 19 minutes, 18 seconds. Placing fourth with a time of 20:13 was Josef Gertner, sophomore of Fort Morgan, Colorado. Dylan Stansbury, junior of Crawford, placed fifth in 20:15. Coming in sixth with a time of 20:16 was Evans Koech, junior of Nairobi, Kenya.

In the women’s four kilometer race, Rebecca Volf, junior of Wood River, took first with a solid 15:07 performance. Jayme Nunes, junior of Alliance, wasn’t far behind with her second-place 15:22 finish. Placing third, Nicky Banzhaf, sophomore of Chadron, finished with a time of 15:26. Callie Johnson, sophomore of Casper, Wyoming, placed fifth with a time of 15:34.
“It was hard, but it was good,” Teren Hanson, junior of Casper, Wyoming, said. “We all raced really well.”
