Golf team finishes 4th at home
The Eagles hosted a two day invitational tournament in Hot Springs, South Dakota. With a second day improvement, the team finished with 778 strokes in two rounds. Out of five teams, the University of Nebraska-Kearney won with a 686. The Eagles finished on Tuesday in fourth place as a team.
Schuyler Wetzel, junior of Hot Springs, South Dakota, had the team’s best score with a 187 after two rounds. Emma Harris, junior of Wahoo, and Kelli Haynes, freshman of Whitney, both had a two round total of 188. All three finished in the top 12.
Harris was pleased with the way the team was able to come back and give a strong second day performance after struggling on the first day.
“Considering the tough course and conditions, our team performed pretty well,” Harris said. “The first day didn’t go in our favor, but we were able to bounce back the second day and make improvements. The course required a lot of thinking and smart shots, which got me in trouble on a few holes. We need to focus on our short game this week. Many strokes come from around the green, so with more practice hopefully we can all shoot lower scores next week.”
Mikayla Gallagher, redshirt freshman from Lead, South Dakota, tied with Karson Langley, freshman of Sidney, with a two day total of 221. Nicole Thramer, sophomore of Spalding, and Grace Miller, freshman of Blair, finished with a 251 and 316, respectively. Danielle Brennan, sophomore of Ellsworth, did not finish the two day tournament.
The Eagles travel to Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction, for a two day tournament beginning Monday.
