Orediggers bury football team 33-18

 

Only scoring two touchdowns in the game, the Eagles struggled against the now ranked No. 17 school on the American Football Coaches Association Football D-II poll.

Quarterback Jonn McLain, senior of Chadron, threw 19 completed passes for 209 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Patrick O’Boyle, senior of Gering, threw two completed for seven yards.

O’Boyle also rushed for 18 yards. Leading in rushing yards, Tailback Michael Madkins, senior of Sacramento, California, ran 106 yards and one touchdown. Fullback Robert Jackson, junior of Savannah, Georgia, also rushed for eight yards.

Wide Receiver Danny O’Boyle, junior of Gering, led the Eagles in receiving yards, catching three for 86 yards, including one touchdown. Inside Receiver Austin Stephens, senior of Lincoln, caught four for 36 yards.

Defensively, Linebacker Dylan Furrier, senior of Tucson, Arizona, led the team with 15 tackles and one sack. Linebacker Isaac Holscher, senior of Scottsbluff, contributed 11 tackles.

The team now changes focus to Colorado Mesa as they travel to Grand Junction this weekend.

“Responding after a tough loss is always key in sports,” Center Sam Parker, senior of Harrison, said. “Our team is excited for the opportunity to play this week. Mesa is a team that always plays us tough. They play sound and aggressive defense. We will have to execute this week in order to win.”

“Overall everyone is just looking forward to having a great week of practice and getting back on the right track,” Furrier said. “We’ve lost a couple of tough games the last two weeks, and we’re really focused on beating CMU.”
