Powder 5k run promotes health, happiness

The Powder to the People 5k run took place Saturday as part of Family Day.
CSC students and their family and friends could participate in the event. The 5K was on-campus and with each turn participants were sprayed with different colors of powder.
The color run started in the United States in 2011, but originated in India. It is an event to promote happiness and health for citizens everywhere. Since its start, regions have been doing their own versions of the color run.
Holi is a spring festival in India. Holi is a celebration of love, frolic, and colors.

During Holi, there is a carnival of colors where participants play, chase, and color one another with dry powder and colored water.
The participants of the event can run in the streets and anyone is fair game to throw powder at.
It is celebrated on the last full moon at the end of winter, which is usually March.
The event also has a religious purpose. It is an ancient Hindu festival that is symbolically represented by the legend of Holika.
Many people thought the color run originated in the United States. The event has a lot of cultural significance that most people didn’t know about.
The next time there’s a color run, remember that not only is it promoting happiness in the U.S., but it is significant in the Indian culture.
