Senate approves CAB’s quarterly allocation
Senators approved $11,350 for CAB’s quarterly allocation and nominated two Senate members for homecoming royalty.
The money allocated to CAB will be used for free movie and free bowling nights for the remainder of the semester; float winners of the homecoming parade; bedsheet winners; homecoming activities; and float and bedsheet supplies for clubs.
On its budget, CAB also requested $4,500 for the club Sharp Shooters, however, this was not passed because Senate cannot allocate money to fund an entire club, Senate Adviser Susan Schaffer said.
Once a club has exhausted all funds allocated to them at the Activity Fee Board budget hearings, they may go to CAB or Senate and request additional funding for an event they want to host according to the AFB constitution, she said.
Sharp Shooters is considered a new club and as a new club they are awarded $100 to start off.
Senate President Dillon Spies and CAB Chair Kelsey Empfield were voted for Senate’s homecoming royalty.
Vice President of Finances Kirby Krogman said there is $159,435.04 in unallocated funds.
There are three positions open for dormitory representatives Chief Justice Jon Lordino said. Elections will take place today and tomorrow in each dorm building.
Katrina Hurley was voted in as a senator-at-large in place of Asia Carr, who resigned last week due to a busy schedule.
Spies said there are still open positions on the Education Technology Committee and the Essential Studies Committee. Timothy Jungquist, senator at-large, took the position on the Education Technology Committee, while the ESC position will be filled next week.
Vice President Taylor Strong reminded Senators that they are a governing body who represents the campus and the student body.
“You are the voice of them,” she said.
Strong also said that there will be moments when controversial issues are going on and told Senators to talk with students and see what they think of the situation at hand.
She said Senate is working for equality and for things to be done correctly.
“There will be differences and that’s OK,” Strong said. “Don’t just vote on how everyone else is voting. Don’t push your opinions on others.”
Bed sheets for Homecoming are due noon, Friday Empfield said. They will be hanged starting Friday.
Laure Sinn, CAB adviser, said she has paint in the Senate and CAB office for the bed sheets, and if clubs need supplies for their float to contact her.
Empfield also said pictures for homecoming nominees were Wednesday and will finish today from 11 a.m.-noon in the basement of Crites. Those nominated for homecoming need to fill out the form online.
Vice-Chair of Finance Kelley McNabb, said CAB has $11,350 in unallocated funds.
Andy Martin, vice chair of programming, said he made a mistake a couple weeks ago. The outdoor fair will be Oct. 18.
He said this is a fair for any outdoor club to participate in and businesses from the community will also be there.
Stephanie Steele, vice-chair of records, said this will be the last time she will remind clubs to get their updated information to her and their updated constitutions to Jon Lordino.
Sinn expressed how excited she is for homecoming and said if clubs need vehicles to drive their floats, she has contacts.
She also said if clubs need candy to hand out at the parade, talk to her.
The Pit asked for help with its event during Halloween. Sinn explain it will be like a giant Halloween party on Oct. 31 and it will run much more smoothly if everyone helps.
The Nest said this week’s volleyball games will have theme nights. Thursday night’s theme is Eagle Pride; Friday is Western Night; and Saturday is hunting/camo night.
