Golf team finishes fall season
The Eagles finished the fall season with their best performance. They competed at the Lady Buff Stampede Invite in Amarillo, Texas. Chadron finished 12th out of the 15 teams that participated. The Eagles carded their season best with a two-round score of 690.
Schuyler Wetzel, junior of Hot Springs, South Dakota, and Mikayla Gallagher, redshirt freshman of Lead, South Dakota, had not only the team’s best scores, but also their own personal best’s with a 158 and a 175, respectively.
“I played well the first day, which gave me confidence for the second day,” Wetzel said. “I knew I could cut off a few strokes by focusing on my short game. I really tried to focus on just one shot at a time. Coming in to this tournament, I wanted to improve from the week before. This, being the last tournament of the fall season, I was determined to finish strong.”
“I think we all just knew we could improve as a team and we went in with that mind set,” Gallagher said. “The last couple of tournaments I really haven’t been playing to the best of my ability, and I was really hoping to improve…
“I’m going to continue to work on my golf swing and just keep getting outside for the little time we have left until snow comes and to get ready for the next season,” Gallagher said.
Wetzel stated that she wants to focus on her short game and approach shots.
Emma Harris, junior of Wahoo, was close behind with a 177. Kelli Haynes, freshman of Whitney, followed with a 36 hole score of 180. Danielle Brennan, sophomore of Ellsworth, finished with a 203.
The Eagles will return to action in March at Montana State University-Billings.
