While CSC students were on fall break, the Student Center was renovated, limiting access to the area around The Pit. From noon Oct. 9, until noon Oct. 14, the lounge area was closed while new carpet was laid. CSC contracted Moorford’s to put in the new carpet, which was chosen by a committee of Student Center directors, according to Shellie Johns, coordinator of conferencing and Student Center building manager.

The upgrade was originally planned for last summer, which is when the carpet in the cafeteria was replaced, but the carpet for the area around The Pit was on backorder.

The total cost for both carpeting jobs was $54,330, according to Dale Grant, vice president of finance. Grant that the money came from revenue bond funding.

Coordinator of Student Activities Laure Sinn said they were trying to achieve a friendlier atmosphere with the update.

“It is real inviting,” Sinn said, “Like your living room.”

Students said they liked the new and improved lounge area.

Avery Montanez, 21, junior from Scottsbluff, called the renovations “groovy.”

Krista Harris, 19, sophomore from Belle Fourche, South Dakota, said, “I think the remodel looks great. It is nice to have a change of scenery.”

The furniture in the lounge area was also replaced, with pieces that were chosen by students. Grant said that revenue bond funding, also allowed for that purchase .

He said that there are plans for more renovations, specifically the ballroom carpet.
