Leadership conference brings Wayne’s, Peru’s Senates to CSC
Friday at the Student Senate Leadership Conference, members of Wayne State College’s Senate met with members of CSC’s Senate and Peru State College’s Senate to discuss a proposal for a change to Nebraska State College System’s Board Policies 2700 and 5000.
Policy 2700 states, “The Nebraska State Colleges are equal opportunity institutions and do not discriminate against any student, employee or applicant on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, or age in employment and education opportunities, including but not limited to admission decisions. Each College has designated an individual to coordinate the College’s nondiscrimination efforts to comply with regulations implementing Title VI, VII, IX, and Section 504.”
Policy 5000 states, “The Nebraska State Colleges are equal opportunity institutions and do not discriminate against any student, employee or applicant on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, or age in employment and education opportunities, including but not limited to admission decisions.
Each College has designated an individual to coordinate the Colleges’ non-discrimination efforts to comply with regulations implementing Title VI, VII, IX, and Section 504….Recruitment, selection, employment, transfer, promotion, demotion, training and pay of all employees shall be without regard to race, color, age, sex, religion, national origin, marital status, political affiliation, or disability.”
WSC handed out papers outlining their plan of action. Wayne’s proposal states, “The proposal is to add sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression to…” policies 2700 and 5000.

WSC is asking Peru State and CSC to bring the proposal to their respected Senates to see if they would be in favor of supporting this proposal. After hearing feedback from PSC and CSC, WSC would then have this proposal sent to the Board of Trustees.
WSC said whether or not they have support from one or both of the other schools they plan to take this proposal to the Board of Trustees to have these policies changed.
They said they think the request for the change in policies would be better if the other schools were also in support, but they are hoping the change can be made even without the support of others.
WSC is hoping to have their proposal on the Board’s agenda by the January meeting so they can vote on it at the March meeting.
Saturday, the three schools came back together to give presentations about their respected schools and how things are run at their school. Chief Justice Jon Lordino gave the first presentation for CSC with other senators chiming in to help on certain topics.
PSC’s Senate President Lexi Neemann, 21, senior of Sioux City, Iowa, and PSC’s CAB President Ryan Bauman, 22, senior of Fall City, gave the presentation for Peru.
All four of Wayne State’s representatives collaborated to give their presentation.
The representatives were Senate President Nolan Janzen, 20, junior of Giltner; Senate Vice President Nathan Schreiter, 20, junior of Lincoln; Board of Trustees Representative and Chair of Student Government Matt Mullins, 20, sophomore of Falls City; and Committee Chair of Campus and Public Relations MaKayla Ptaschek, 20, junior of Lincoln.
