Men, women cross country teams finish in top 10
The Chadron State College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Mount Marty College invitational in Yankton, South Dakota, this weekend, placing third and sixth, respectively.
There were more than 15 teams in each category. The men’s team competed in the eight-kilometer race with more than 200 entries. The Eagles totaled 99 points for third place, finishing with an average time of 26:27.75.
Evans Koech, a junior of Naiobi, Kenya, led the Eagles, placing ninth in 25 minutes and 47.91 seconds, followed by Alejandro Garcia, junior of Pine Bluff, Wyoming, who placed 11th with a time of 25:52.70.
The men’s team from the University of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, won the men’s team title totaling 19 points and an average time of 25:16.51.
Leading the CSC women, Rebecca Volf, junior of Wood River, finished 11th with a time of 19:01.58. Jayme Nunes, junior of Alliance, placed 18th with a time of 19:11:30. Callie Johnson, sophomore of Casper, Wyoming, was the third to finish for the Eagles placing 35th in the event with a time of 19:44.12.
The Eagles were without Nicky Banzhaf, sophomore of Chadron, who is normally their number-three runner. She will be back in time for the RMAC Championships.
Dordt College of Sioux Center, Iowa, won the women’s team title with 23 points and an average time of 18:37.48. The CSC women’s team finished with 180 total points placing sixth in the event with an average time of 19:50.57.
The Eagles next outing will be the RMAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Western State in Gunnison, Colorado.
