Men’s Choir hosts area HS students
CSC hosted the fourth Men’s Choir Day in the Sandoz Center from 9 a.m.-2:50 p.m. Thursday. The event takes place every other year and puts high school students from the region in-touch with the CSC music department.
The workshop was held for male students’ grades 9-12. During Men’s Choir Day the high school students worked with the CSC Men’s Ensemble and Music Director Joel Schreuder. Schreuder directs the Concert Choir, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and was chair of the music department from 2009-11.
The 14-member ensemble meets twice a week for an hour and a half in order to work on ensemble singing, technique, leadership, and singing for pleasure.
“It is used to foster a positive attitude toward singing for men who may not have the resources to sing with other guys because of the small schools that surround the panhandle,” Men’s Ensemble member Jacob Wirth, senior of Sidney, said.
Wirth also said that Men’s Choir Day “is a useful recruiting tool for the Chadron Music Department,” as it allows young men from the area to view the Chadron campus, the Sandoz Center, and connects them with current CSC students.
