Pinterest party inspires creativity in students

Materials for cookies in a jar, clothespin wreaths, and Halloween treat bags were provided to student crafters during an RLA-sponsored Pinterest party 9 p.m.-midnight, Friday in the Edna Work Wing Conference Room.

About 20 people attended the event, designed to provide students with an opportunity to create crafts while interacting with one another.

Brandy Bowers, 21, junior of Interior, South Dakota, created all three crafts and said she enjoyed the event.

“I like being crafty and I’m trying to be more social,” she said.

The crafting collection on Pinterest, a social media website where users can create or share collections of just about anything, inspired the event. If attendees needed inspiration, they turned to Pinterest for ideas using a laptop provided by RLA.

Erin Admundson, 21, senior of Colton, South Dakota, an Edna RA, said RLA events are seldom hosted in Edna because the other commonly used locations, such as Kent, the Gold Room, and the Student Center, are more central to student traffic.

“We were kind of worried with it being in Edna,” Admundson said. “There not being so many people, but we’re pretty pleased with the turnout.”
