3 wrestlers place Saturday
Saturday the team traveled to the Cowboy Open Tournament, Laramie, Wyoming, where three CSC wrestlers placed.
Caleb Copeland, sophomore of Bennett, Colorado, 174-pounds, placed second, and both Taylor Summers, sophomore of Plymouth, and Terrance McKinney, sophomore of Spokane, Washington, placed third in the 133-pound and 141-pound classes, respectively.
Copeland won his first two matches by major decisions before losing his match in the finals 8-7.
Summers went 4-1 losing only in the semifinals. He then defeated Eduardo Pehna of Northwest Wyoming 8-3 to earn third place.
McKinney went 5-1. His only loss was to Hayden Tuma of the University of Nebraska in the semifinals. McKinney turned around to pin John David Henderson of Northwest Wyoming to claim the third place title.
All three of the Eagle place earners are sophomores.
Other CSC wrestlers to bag wins were 125-pound freshman, Brian Guerrero, who went 3-2 and Jacob Anderson, sophomore of Central City, 149-pounds, who went 1-2.
Three Eagle wrestlers split four matches in the 157-pound weight class. They were Clayton Steinmetz, junior of Hot Springs, South Dakota; Reed Burgerner, sophomore of Douglas, Wyoming; and Johnny Porter, freshman of Bellevue.
Cooper Cogdill, freshman of Chadron, 197-pounds; and Austin Abbey, sophomore of Lander, Wyoming, heavyweight, were the other to CSC wrestlers to split four matches.
Taylor Pownall, junior of Gillette, Wyoming, 174-pounds, went 1-2 in the elite division.
Devan Fors, senior of Roseburg, Oregon, 197-pounds, lost both of his matches in the elite division. The last loss was due to medical forfeit.
This Saturday, the Eagle wrestling team will compete at the Dakota Wesleyan Open Tournament, Mitchell, South Dakota.
