Track teams to host intersquad dual
Chadron State men’s and women’s track teams are hosting a cops-and-robbers themed intersquad dual Friday.
The track and field team routinely hosts an intersquad dual a few weeks before the season kicks into gear to test athletes in a fun, live competition.
“It’s a good time for fans to come see who is competing for the track and field team,” Brian Medigovich, assistant track coach, said.
This dual also decides some runner’s fate as A team runners and B team runners, so it should be a competitive night for all runners and fans.
Coaches are working for the men’s and women’s teams to compete at a national level, hoping this season they can compete as one of the top three teams for the conference, but understand that goals will smooth out as the season plays out. Coaching staff also said they hope for multiple men and women to compete in National Meets this year.
“We have quite a few players to look out for this season,” Medigovich said.
Coaches said they are expecting senior Hunter Dittbenner, of Mitchell, and sophomore Chris Cutcher, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, to lead the way for the men’s team. Dittbenner was a RMAC hepthathlon champion last season, and Cutcher was one of the top hurdlers.
The Eagle’s women have a few weapons of their own that they plan to put to the test. Sophomore Kelsey Wood, of Hemingford, and junior Shelby Bozner, of Rock Springs, Wyoming, are returning after strong showings last year.
Coaches are also preparing for the cross country team to compete in the South Regional Championships this weekend. Medigovich will travel with the cross country team, and later coach Brad Gamble will meet up with the team, but he will stay back and help coordinate the cops and robbers event.
The Intersquad dual will be hosted at the Nelson Physical Activity Center at 2 p.m., Friday.
