Four CSC football players have been awarded the Capital One Academic All-American Award. Like last year, CSC’s football team provided the most Division II players selected. CSC has two more than any other RMAC school. Players are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Sam Parker, senior center of Harrison, Zach Sandstrom, senior defensive tackle of Chadron, Ethan Bauer, senior receiver of Morse Bluff, and Randy Wentz, sophomore kicker of Scottsbluff, were honored this year.

Parker, a communications major with a 3.85 GPA, and Sandstrom, a health and physical education and math major with a 3.94 GPA, were selected to the first team. They were both selected to the second team last year. They are the fifth and sixth players in Chadron State’s history to earn more than one Academic All-American award.

Bauer, a criminal justice and family and consumer science major with a 3.85 GPA, and Wentz, a business administration with a 4.0 GPA, were honored on the second team.

In the past 40 years, there have been 22 CSC football players to earn Academic All-American awards.

To earn the All-American award, student-athletes must be a starter or important player to the team. The student-athlete must maintain a 3.30 cumulative GPA. Student-athletes have to play in at least half of the team’s games. Student-athletes must complete one full calendar year at his/her college and be a sophomore in athletic eligibility.
