Eagle wrestlers split home duals

Saturday the CSC Eagle wrestlers hosted duals between Chadron State, the Hastings College Broncos, and the NCAA 16th ranked Augustana College Vikings.

To start off the action, the Eagles stampeded the Broncos and galloped to a 46-3 win over Hastings. Nine of the 10 matches were victories for the Eagles.

Robert Ozuna, freshman of Omaha, 125-pounds, and Taylor Summers, sophomore of Plymouth, 133-pounds, kick started the Eagles’ roll with two major decisions. Jacob Anderson, sophomore of Central City, 149-pounds, and Dylan Fors, senior of Roseburg, Oregon, 184-pounds, were the other two CSC wrestlers to post major decisions against Hastings College.

Chance Helmick, freshman of Beatrice, won the 165-pound match by forfeit.

Reed Burgener, sophomore of Douglas, Wyoming, 157-pounds, pinned his Hasting College opponent in 1:54. Caleb Copeland, sophomore of Bennett, Colorado, 174-pounds, pinned his opponent in 4:58 and Devan Fors, senior of Roseburg, Oregon, 197-pounds, marked up a win by fall in 6:03.

Heavyweight Jake Weber, sophomore of Rapid City, South Dakota, answered with a pin against Hastings’ Jake Wild, freshman of Bellevue, in 0:24.

The Augustana Vikings bested Hastings 46-6 in the second dual of the day.

For the final dual of the day, Chadron took on Augustana College.

Summers was able to pin his opponent, and accomplished the win in 4:45. Copeland also bested his opponent by fall in 4:21. Anderson and Devon Fors each posted decisions in the dual against Augustana.

The final score was 31-15 Augustana.

Chadron State’s next wrestling action will be home and it will take place on Jan. 15 against Colorado Mesa University. The dual is recognized as Faculty Appreciation Night.
