In a letter sent Dec. 19, 2014, House Speaker John Boehner invited President Obama to deliver the report to a Joint Session of Congress on Jan. 20.

Article II, Section 3, Clause 1 of the Constitution says that the President “shall from time to time give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”

The President is expected to discuss the resurgent American economy, the growing employment rate, and the end of conflict in Afghanistan.

The State of the Union Address will be broadcast live on CSPAN and several cable news channels and can be streamed online at http://www.whitehouse.gov/sotu
