Chadron State campus on lockdown

Chadron State College lockdown was put into effect at 9:30 p.m. As of 10:37 p.m. the lockdown was still in effect. The lockdown was put into effect due to unconfirmed reports of a shooter in Chadron.

There have been unconfirmed reports of an armed robbery. The unconfirmed reports are that the robber got away and is in town.

At 10:27 p.m. Director of College Relations Alex Helmbrecht sent out a campus wide email to all students informing them of the lockdown.

An individual alleged to be armed and potentially dangerous was last seen moving towards Hidden Valley, south of campus, on foot.

The alleged individual is described as a 17-year-old Native American. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

If the alleged individual is seen, witnesses are urged to call 911 (9-911 on campus phones) or the Chadron Police Department at 308-432-0510.

Helmbrect urged all students who live on campus to remain in their residence halls. All students and staff members who are on campus should seek shelter immediately. Student will be allowed admittance into the residence halls with positive identification.

At 10:54, CSC Information sent out a text informing students of the lockdown.

Message stated: CSC has a report of a dangerous situation on/near campus. CSC is on lockdown. Check your CSC email.
