Investigation surrounding CSC student’s death continues

Amending an earlier statement, Dawes County Attorney and Coroner Vance Haug issued a press release Tuesday stating that “foul play and all other possibilities continue to be investigated” in connection with the death of Fatima Larios, 19, sophomore of Seaside, California.

In an original press release issued Saturday morning, Haug said, “A preliminary investigation of the scene leads Vance Haug, the Dawes County Attorney and Coroner, to believe that foul play is not involved…”

The new press release says, “A forensic autopsy has been completed and additional forensic testing continues to assist in the final determination of cause of death.”

Tuesday’s release did not explain why Haug changed his position.

Haug states no additional information will be released at this time.

Police are asking anyone with information involving this death investigation to contact Chadron Police Department at (308) 432-0510 or the Dawes County Crimestoppers at (308) 432-0519.

The CPD found Larios in High Rise at 2:30 a.m., Saturday, and she was pronounced dead after police were called to the dormitory.

Larios was a listed on the CSC’s softball roster as No. 20. She was a second baseman and an outfielder.
