Cowboys fall in standings

The CSC cowboys lost their momentum and their lead in the Central Rocky Mountain Region team standings at the Colorado State University rodeo in Fort Collins.

However, with two rodeos left in the regular season, the CSC cowboys still have a shot at making it to Nationals as a team.

In Fort Collins, Casper College scored 530 points to take over the top spot in the team standings with a total of 3,105 points, only 100 more than the CSC men who scored 290 points.

The CSC bareback riders led the team in points. Wyatt Clark, graduate student of Wellfleet, placed second scoring 76 points in the first go-round and 75 points in the short-go, and Nate McFadden, senior of Elsmere, placed with 65 and 70 points, respectively.

Prestyn Novak, freshman of Newell, South Dakota, was third in the steer wrestling with a first go-round time of 6.3 seconds and a short-go time of 5.9. Rolly Fortune, junior of Interior, South Dakota, placed third in the tie-down roping in 11.6 and 12.7.

“It felt good to have a successful weekend,” Fortune said. “I had a really slow calf in the long round and made a good run on him. I was able to make it back to the short round and make another smooth run. It was a great weekend and I hope to keep the momentum through the last two rodeos in Casper and Laramie.”

Abbie Frey, junior of Crawfordsville, Indiana, was the only CSC cowgirl to place in Fort Collins. She was sixth in goat tying with two times of 7.9.

Casper College will host this weekend’s rodeo in the region. The final rodeo of the regular season will be in Laramie, Wyoming,  May 1-3.

“I am sitting in the top five in the calf roping and have a great shot at making a run at the college finals in that event, and that is one of my goals for the rest of the regular season,” Novak said. “Our men’s team is sitting second in the region and I am hoping we can keep going strong and bring back a regional title.”
