Eagles swing into 8th place

The Eagles golf team traveled to Grand Junction, Colorado, for the Maverick Spring Invitational. The team finished in eighth place with a 729 total strokes. Metropolitan State University won with a score of 617.

Metro’s Nathalie Gallacher, senior of Stockholm, Sweden, and sophomore Cha Cha Willhoite, of Palm Desert, California, tied for the individual title, carding a two-day total of 144.

For CSC, junior Schuyler Wetzel, of Hot Springs, South Dakota, improved on a first round 88 by one stroke, with a combined total of 175, finishing 27th overall. Junior Emma Harris, of Wahoo, finished with a 179. Kelli Haynes, freshman of Whitney, showed consistency, carding a 94 on both days for a total of 188. Mikayla Gallagher, redshirt freshman of Lead, South Dakota, and freshman Karson Langley, of Sidney, shot a 195 and 197, respectively.

“The toughest part about the tournament was playing smart,” Harris said. “It was difficult course so getting into trouble was easy, it was getting out of those situations was the most challenging.

“The competition was really good because the best players in the RMAC were there,” Harris said.

CSC’s next matchup will be the RMAC championship Monday and Tuesday in Avondale, Arizona.
