Michael Hall for Sen. Pres.

Richard Heule IIIOh boy, it’s everyone’s favorite time of the year; election season! I have never been big on student government because I feel like it’s a flawed system and needs an overhaul, but I want to keep readers informed about candidates and other things, so why not? I have taken a good look at all of the candidates and have come to the conclusion that Senator Michael Hall is probably the best guy for the job.

I know Senator Hall for many personal experiences. He is a member of the new gaming club of which I am Secretary, and he has attended every meeting we have had. He has always acted professionally and been a pretty great guy. When he told me he wanted to run for president, I was a bit hesitant due to the fact that he had just started school here. I felt that if someone wanted to be a really good student leader, they should be here for a longer period of time. However, once we talked more about politics, I felt like it was a position I could get behind.

Probably the best thing Senator Hall wants to do is stop those stupid leadership trips.

I haven’t really spoken about those trips, but honestly, it really grinds my gears that we spend tens-of-thousands of dollars to send a small group of students to New Orleans or Orlando. I doubt that going to the French Quarter or taking pictures with Goofy is going to make you the next Barack Obama. I know the people who want these trips have good intentions, but it doesn’t help that these trips only benefit very few people.

I have heard time and time again that these trips “help the student body.” Are you kidding me? This last year of Senate has been the most unproductive, largely due to the fact everyone has been out to get the president and make him look bad. You don’t have to agree with people’s politics, but I felt a lot of boundaries were overstepped and a lot of good people got made to look foolish, which is not the case.

I have faith that Senator Hall can turn Senate around and make it serve the students once again. With the low amount of people on Senate currently, it seems less like students making decisions than it does “the top one percent” making decisions. Not to mention, it seems that everything the student senators do, somehow it gets blamed on the president.

I have been attending meetings of senate on-and-off since the beginning of this semester and I can tell you right now the majority of dumb decisions come at the hands of the senators that we elected to be our voice.

I feel that it’s time to find a new one, and in my opinion, Michael Hall is that best voice.
