Students dance to celebrate successful Homecoming week
To end one of the most important and highly celebrated weeks of the school year at CSC, students gathered in the Student Center Ballroom at 9 p.m., Saturday.
In an effort to promote school spirt while giving students something fun and safe to do during Homecoming week, RLA threw a formal dance so students could celebrate a win by the football team, show off some of their best clothing, and spend time with either their friends or their significant others.
“It turned out better than I expected,” said Maria Evtodieva, 22, senior of Syktyvkar, Russia, who is part of RLA. “Comparing it to last year’s event, I believe we had more people show up, and overall, it just seemed like everyone had a good time.”
Students came to this formal Homecoming dance wearing some of their best Homecoming attire with an array of styles, with the women’s dresses ranging from long gowns to shorter style dresses, while the men came in either button down shirts and jeans to, in some cases, wearing tailor made suits.
There was a happy mood the whole evening and many people wanted to come to the dance to celebrate the football team’s win against Adams State University earlier that day.
The music kept everyone on the dance floor with a wide variety of music that was sure to appease everyone. The DJ mixed in highly popular hip hop songs like “Come My Way” by Fetty Wap, which made the crowd energetic and bounce around. Then he slowed it down by playing “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, which all the couples enjoyed.
“The music made people really get out there and start talking to each other and just overall made the dance just a fun place to be,” D’cari Charleston, 19, sophomore of Detroit, said. “These type of events are a great way to get out and meet new people.”
The event saw a really good turn out as people just kept coming in big groups. It was more common to see a bigger group than it was to see two people come together on a date. Even though people came in groups, it didn’t take long before they all went their separate ways to meet and dance with other people.
“This is the one of the most enjoyable times in the school year and the football team’s win made Homecoming that much better,” Tricia Goes, 21, senior of Beatrice, said.
Both Charleston and Goes said that the main reason they came to the dance was because multiple people told them that there were going to be a lot of people in attendance, and it made them want to check it out. Many students look forward to these type of events because it gives them safe places to go on campus where they can be around friends and have fun.
