CSC rodeo teams take 4th in Cheyenne

This past weekend the CSC Rodeo team traveled to Cheyenne, Wyoming to compete at Laramie County Community College for the last rodeo on the fall schedule for the Central Rocky Mountain Region.

Seven contestants placed within the top four in their events.

Dakota Rice, freshmen of Kellogg, Idaho, won the bull riding. He rode his bull in the first go-round and scored 71 points; he was the only rider to ride a bull in the long go. He failed to make the whistle during the finals on Sunday, but still walked away with all of the event’s prize money, which was more than $1,000.

Elise Fortune, freshman of Interior, South Dakota, finished third in the breakaway roping. She won the long go-round with a time of 2.2 seconds, and she ran a 2.0 in the final go-round, but broke the barrier and was penalized 10.0 seconds to put her time at 12.0. The penalty put her third in the finals.

Justin Kissack, sophomore of Gillette, Wyoming placed third in the bareback riding, earning 67 points on both rides.

Tie-down roper Lathan Lauing, freshman of Oral, South Dakota, finished both of his runs in 11.9 seconds and finished fourth in the event.

Clayton Van Aken, graduate student of Laramie, Wyoming, and his partner, Trey Yates of LCCC, placed fourth in the team roping with a run of 6.2 in the long round and 11.0 in the finals.

Five of CSC’s goat tiers made it to the finals including Brandi Cwach, sophomore of Geddes, South Dakota; Shelby Winchell, graduate student of Scottsbluff; Kelsey Knust, junior of Verdigre; Abbie Frey, senior of Crawfordsville, Indiana, and Jordan Tierney, sophomore of Oral , South Dakota.

The men’s team scored 295 points which left them fourth in the team standings in Cheyenne, but they are leading the region with a total of 2,280 on the season which has put them 382.5 points ahead of the runner-up, Eastern Wyoming College and 635 points ahead of third place, Casper College.

The women earned 155 points in Cheyenne, which also left them in fourth place, and they are fifth in the region with 855 points on the season.

The Central Rocky Mountain Region will begin their spring schedule in March.
