Gift cards are up for grabs for leadership attendees

Senate allocated $500 to entice students to attend the leadership conference Nov. 17-21. There will be drawings at Nick Scott’s presentation for one $300 gift certificate to the bookstore and two $100 gift certificates to the bookstore. You must be present to win. Senate is also asking for extra credit to be given in class for students who attend the speakers.

Anyone interested in helping to revitalize a second animal shelter for the community email Senate President Katrina Hurley.

A meet and greet for Senate will be in the Scottsbluff room at 6 p.m., Nov. 19.

Senate approved the soccer and archery clubs, so they are now officially in CAB.

Deena Kennell, Student Senate adviser, explained when abstaining from a vote is appropriate. She said that it is your duty to vote if you have an opinion, and whether or not you vote, you are still responsible for the outcome. She said that if your interest in the outcome affects you personally or financially, abstention is suitable.

Hurley said that she was contacted about senators feeling that the executive board was against the senators in the vote last week about the Health 101 allocation. She told the senators that the executive board likes to get their opinion in the discussion but senators shouldn’t feel like they are being forced to vote a certain way.

Chris Green, Student Senate adviser, showed the senators a video sent from Paul Wesselmann. Wesselmann, the Ripples Guy, is coming to CSC to speak from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for faculty and 7-8 p.m., today for students in the Scottsbluff room. Wesselmann asked the viewers of the video to speak up about what challenges are getting in the way of bringing your best self forward. Senators and students said that some of these challenges include career choices, being involved in a lot of activities, fitting in with the right crowd, and technological distractions.

Student Senate allocated $450 to Laure Sinn, B.E.A.M.M.S. and Rangeland coordinator, for the “Partee at the Pavilion.” The allocation is for T-shirts that will be handed out to the first 50 students to arrive. This alcohol awareness event is at 8 p.m., Nov. 20 at the Coffee Agriculture Pavilion.

Next week, Senate will vote on an allocation of $3,000 for RLA to host a speaker, Jamie Utt. If Senate approves the allocation, RLA will provide another $2,000 plus some additional costs. Utt will have two sessions and will speak about diversity and consent sometime in January.

The tentative date for The Big Event is April 2016. The Big Event coordinators are asking for an allocation of $13,494.11. An open forum will be hosted at 3 p.m., Monday for students to discuss this allocation.

A general assembly will be on Friday for all of Senate and its subsidiary committees to discuss their group projects for the remainder of the year.

The Student Senate workshop is from 5-7 p.m., Saturday. Senators will discuss Robert’s Rules and major projects that Senate will be doing.

Student Trustee Mikayla Gallagher is traveling to Wayne for a NSCS board meeting this weekend. If you have anything you would like her to bring up at the meeting, contact her as soon as possible.
