Poverty awareness raised through hunger banquet

Students in Shaunda French’s CA 239 Event Planning and Leadership class are hosting CSC’s Oxfam Hunger Banquet Nov. 16. Anyone wishing to attend should contact students in one of the two sections of the class or French at [email protected] or 308-432-6302.

Each person is asked to bring three canned food items to donate to the food pantry. The pantry asked specifically for jars of peanut butter, chicken broth, canned meat, dry milk, canned fruit, canned veggies, canned spaghetti sauce, mac n’ cheese, canned beans, boxes of non-sweet cereal and/or standard pasta.

There will be two sections of the event in the Student Center Ballroom, one at 5 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. The guest speaker for both sections will be Pastor Ann Sundberg of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

French participated in an Oxfam Hunger Banquet at the University of Central Missouri while working on her masters program. “I think it’s important for the community to be aware of the poverty issues that are prominent in the local, regional, national, and global levels,” French said.
