Black team trumps Cardinal team in intersquad dual

The CSC wrestling team faced off Friday as they competed against each other during the annual Black and Cardinal Classic in the NPAC. The Black team, coached by Graduate Assistant Dustin Stodola and Volunteer Assistant Dylan Fors, edged out the Cardinal team, coached by Assistant Coach Kamron Jackson, 32-15, during the intersquad match.
Terrence McKinney, sophomore of Spokane, Washington, 149-pounds, who is 5-0 on the season pinned Casey Glassgow, sophomore of Gordon. Caleb Copeland, junior of Bennett, Colorado, 174-pounds, with a record of 3-2, pinned Ethan Haddock, redshirt freshman of Ridgecrest, California. Sean Glasgow, freshman of Newark, New Jersey, 157-pounds, and a 4-2 record, scored a pin against Johnny Porter, redshirt freshman of Bellevue.
Chance Helmick, sophomore of Beatrice, 165-pounds, with a 5-2 record, earned a technical fall over Shaq Bell, junior of South Haven, Michigan.
The Black team put three decisions on the board with the first three matches. They were earned by Reed Burgener, junior of Douglas, Wyoming, 165-pound, who went 4-3 over Bell; Austin Abbey, junior of Lander, Wyoming, heavyweight, who earned a close 12-11 decision over DJ Castillo, redshirt freshman of Lincoln; and Brandon Kile, freshman of Hastings, 125-pounds, who defeated Brian Gurrero, redshirt freshman of Rohnert Park, California, 2-0.
For the Cardinal team, Shane Rodenburg, freshman of Kent City, Michigan, 184-pounds, earned the only pin, which was against 174-pound Taylor Pownall, senior of Gillette, Wyoming. The three pins earned by the Black team and the one by the Cardinal team were all posted in the first period of the matches.
The Cardinal team also had three wrestlers that earned decisions. Taylor Summers, junior of Plymouth, 133-pounds, who has gone 4-1 on the season, earned his decision over Josh Miller, sophomore of Bennett, Colorado, with a score of 9-7. Zach Denney, sophomore of North Platte, 141-pounds, and a 4-2 record, beat Brock Thumm, redshirt freshman of Watervliet, Michigan, with a score of 4-2. Kai Dill, freshman of Clovis, California, heavyweight, earned his win over Abbey, who was wrestling his second match of the night, with a final score of 4-3.
The next competition for the Eagles will be in Kearney at the UNK Holiday Inn Open beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.
